I.O. STORE_BEIJING 2018
“Nali” patio, embraced by a white classical southern European-style building, sits in Tai Koo Li Beijing’s commercial center. Bars and restaurants surround it, with IO quietly placed at the entrance, blending into the romantic setting. Named after Zeus’s mortal lover and Jupiter’s moon, IO symbolizes ancient moon beauty, chastity, and enduring love. Its owner cherishes timeless, handcrafted objects marked by time’s passage. Inspired by Marcel Proust’s “In Search of Lost Time” and the fragrance brand Mad et Len, JANG created IO’s shrine—a quiet, mysterious gateway to a journey through time, evoking deep, nostalgic emotions. The 30 sqm space had low ceilings with complex water pipes, making it challenging. Our goal was to create a visually and functionally spacious, open, and airy environment despite these limits. We created a channel that splits the space into three. It starts at the entrance, leading to the main display room. The first, street-adjacent room serves as a hidden display space, concealed by a sliding door. A corner was discreetly reserved as a cloakroom.
