The Anchoret No. 5 boutique, realized for Anchoret, is, in many ways, a true crown jewel in the nomadic and ever-evolving journey of the Anchoret brand through the bustling capital city of China. Looking back, it was undoubtedly the 3.0 boutique that most clearly represented the essence and spirit of what the brand creators have carefully built and refined over many years. Unfortunately for that particular space, in the summer of 2017, Beijing’s lawmakers made the decision to reshape the city according to their vision. Since then, there have been widespread demolitions, forced relocations, and liquidations of countless small alleyway stalls, independent boutiques, and cozy bars. As a result, the vibrant local street life in many districts gradually died out, leaving large shopping malls as the only viable alternative for the few persistent shop owners who remained. Anchoret 3.0, after a prolonged and symbolic hour-long battle with a relentless bulldozer, ultimately became a piece of history.
