ANCHORET 4.0 STORE_BEIJING 2017

Anchoret 4.0 represents yet another significant stop on the ever-evolving nomadic journey of the Anchoret brand throughout the vibrant city of Beijing. Up until now, all their previous stores were thoughtfully situated in old residential apartments tucked away in more niche, less frequented areas of town, adding a unique charm to their locations. This time around, however, the new store’s location is far more prestigious and high-profile—nestled in the city’s busiest and most commercial district known as Tai Koo Li. This area is renowned for its strict regulations and rigid rules that every tenant must adhere to. Specifically, whenever a space within Tai Koo Li is re-rented, the outgoing tenant is required to return the premises in a raw, untouched condition. The incoming tenant, Anchoret 4.0, typically receives a bare space with raw concrete walls and floors and exposed ceilings showing all installations, creating a minimalist, industrial backdrop. This time was different: the space was ready, with new tiles, pearl white walls, renovated ceilings, half-dressed mannequins, and fully functional electrics, air-con, and fire systems. The previous tenant had left abruptly. With only three weeks to work, we avoided major changes and instead added subtle touches—grey tones, velvet curtains, and warm lighting—for a softer, elegant Anchoret feel. We combined handmade old wood furniture with European antiques and met the tight deadline. Anchoret 4.0 is temporary; Anchoret 5.0 is already in progress.
